Hey there! We are Matt and João, the founders of Portugalxpert!
Get to know the Founders and the Team!
We met each other in Toastmasters, a public speaking club in Lisbon.
My name is João, holder of an International Master’s in Management at Nova SBE and a Postgraduate in Building Conservation and Rehabilitation. I was born and raised in Setúbal, a paradise only 40min away from Lisbon. I moved to Lisbon to study business and work and fell in love with the city. I had the chance to live in Estoril, Cascais, and Lisbon (including 3 years in a boat).
In the past few years, I've been involved in several real estate projects, assisting foreigners buying property in Portugal in a one-stop-shop model. I proudly managed real estate projects, from the acquisition to the renovations and rental, as well as creating strategies to maximize the cash-on-cash return of the investors.
My name is Matt, a former student of Harvard Business School, and a Property Developer, in the Algarve, I love it here. It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s a paradise. But it wasn’t always this easy. I spent my first few years in Portugal figuring out how to do everything ‘the Portuguese way’ by trial and error, as most expats do, however the lessons I have learnt along the way enabled me to help people at the beginning of their journey. In the last few years, I’ve been running multiple businesses across Europe, been a property developer in Portugal, and regularly worked as a business coach and mentor, helping people start successful businesses in Portugal and beyond.

João is a Property Buyer’s Agent with a focus on managing renovation projects across the Lisbon, Cascais, Almada, and Setúbal regions. He is also a Certified Mortgage Broker dedicated to assisting international clients. João holds an International Master’s degree in Management and has completed postgraduate studies in Building Conservation and Rehabilitation.

Matt, a Harvard Business School alumnus, is a property developer based in the Algarve, Portugal. His journey began with the typical expat experience, learning “the Portuguese way” through trial and error. Now, with years of experience running businesses across Europe and being an expat, Matt also serves as a relocation consultant, helping others moving and settling in Portugal.
